UNOPS

About us

UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners’ peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world. UNOPS mission is to help people build better lives and countries achieve sustainable development.

UNOPS is a service provider, a technical advisor and an implementer of projects to support our partners. Our experts work on a range of projects, from managing the construction of roads in South Sudan and providing renewable energy solutions in internally displaced persons camps in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, to helping the Government of Honduras procure vital medicines and medical supplies.

At the moment UNOPS supports projects in more than 80 countries and in 2020-2021 UNOPS delivered $2.2 billion in peace and security, humanitarian and development projects.

Carmen GARCIA BANGO

Story:  I started my journey in UNOPS in September 2021. I joined the Client Projects IT unit within the IT Group. The job is very dynamic, I have the opportunity to collaborate with many talented colleagues around the world and support them to deliver innovative projects to our partners by including the latest available technologies. I love my role because I get to work with colleagues from different areas of expertise (IT, procurement, project management, infrastructure, legal, etc.) which has allowed me to further develop professionally. I can only hope I keep growing and developing as a professional in UNOPS”.

Samar Jehad ELHISSI

Story: Samar is 29 years old, graduated from IT college in Gaza in 2015, and lived all her life in a very masculine and conservative community. She started her journey with UNOPS in the Gaza office as a Software Developer in 2017; then, she was promoted to become an IT Team Leader in 2019. In September 2021, she got an international position and moved to work in HQ UNOPs Copenhagen Office as an ICT Senior Officer – Software Development!

“Working at UNOPS made a huge difference for me; I received tremendous support from my female and male supervisors, who encouraged me to talk and share my ideas. They appreciated and highlighted my unique achievements. I learned many incredible things about software engineering. I used to be quiet and shy and it was not easy for me to express myself in front of my male colleagues. Without being given this job opportunity in UNOPS, I would not feel strong enough to apply for an international position and travel alone for the first time in my life. I was strong enough to discuss my future career with my parents and convinced them to accept my decision to move to Copenhagen. UNOPS changed my life; they showed me a bright road that I never imagined would exist when I was young”.
